Last June, we attended Unreal Fest Prague, an event that brings together creators and developers from a variety of industries, from gaming, film and TV, to automotive, architecture to real estate.

Why we attended

We at Applied were there because we were the first to be able to apply Unreal Engine technology to the nautical field. In fact, our Innovation Makers from the 3D area illustrated the Case Study: “Real-time 3D HMI for the high-end yachting industry”, showing our innovative suite of digital solutions applied to the nautical domain, Future Marine, already adopted by Wider Yachts.

Unreal Engine and new fields of application

The project highlights how we were able to go beyond the traditional application areas of Unreal Engine technology, more commonly used in gaming or film production and animation, and apply it to a whole new field, the nautical one. In fact, the innovative catamaran made by Wider Yachts, the WiderCat92, is equipped with a 3D application installed on a touchscreen on the yacht's cockpit, which allows the entire crew to interact in real time with the boat's propulsion systems, monitor alarms and batteries, control the electrical system, the fluid system and more than 600 variables of the boat's various systems.

It was a unique opportunity for Applied that allowed us, not only to make ourselves known, but also to connect with other innovators and share our experiences in applying Unreal Engine technology.

Learn how the experience, skills and abilities of our UX/UI and 3D realtime teams have enabled us to overcome design challenges by bringing about a revolution in the design and capabilities of HMIs in the marine industry.
